Rumah Kingfisher is the realization of our dream of living in an authentic Indonesian wood home overlooking an incredibly lush tropical river valley. It is a beautiful and unique combination of old and new; a 10-year labor of love to create and finish the home and gardens that have been our family's main residence for the last decade. Meet Our Team

Villa Kingfisher is operated by the owner and a seasoned team of villa staff whose every effort centers on making your stay more enjoyable.

Chika Herdrich

Owner

Chika moved to Bali from Java in the early 2000's and knew she was 'home' the minute her feet hit the ground. Since then, she has busied herself with her warung (Chika's Home Cooking) just up the lane from the villa, as well as managing not only the family properties, but her two growing sons. She readily welcomes all visitors to Rumah Kingfisher and loves to take good care of them.

Villa Manager

Komang is our villa manager, with more than a decade of hospitality experience. She knows how to help guests with most of their special requests and always has a friendly smile. We are fortunate to have a manager of Komang's caliber lead our staff as they all work together to take the best care possible of our guests.

What services do you offer in-house?

We offer a variety of in-house services from massage to yoga, from a chef for personalized meals to cooking classes. We can also assist in arranging many other activities located nearby the villa. For more information click here.

How late can I check out of the villa?

Normal check-out time for guests is before 11:00am, however on request this can be extended, depending on 'next guest' arrival time. If you need to leave your luggage with us while you squeeze in a few last-minute activities in Ubud, we'll be happy to store it for you for later collection.

What is your cancelation policy?

We have a 48-hour 'no-penalty' cancelation period from time of booking confirmation. For more details on this and other house rules, click here.

How do I pay for my booking?

You can pay for your stay through a wire transfer. Please Contact Us and fill out the brief form, we'll email you a quote for your stay based on your dates and number of guests, which will contain the transfer details needed to confirm your booking.

Do you have a PlayStation or Nintendo?

Yes, we have a PS-5 PlayStation setup in the lower floor entertainment area.

How far is the villa from Ubud center?

Rumah Kingfisher is located about 2 miles along the main road from downtown, then along a small gang a short distance that is just far enough to be isolated from any traffic sounds. See map.

How long does it take to travel to/from airport?

Normally trips to and from the airport take from 1 hour to 1.5 hours depending on the time of day. We offer a car and driver service for your convenience should you wish to reserve prior to your arrival. Just let us know in advance of your travels.

Can I smoke in certain areas of the property?

As the villa is constructed from old wood, we do want to ensure guest safety as well as that of our staff. There is no smoking permitted inside any floor of the home, or on the main floor balcony. There are outdoor areas on the garden level designated for smoking. Just ask the villa staff to point them out to you.

How do I make a booking?

Click here and fill out the brief form specifying the dates you want to stay and number of guests in your party. We'll get back to you with a quote for your stay which you can then confirm by email.

Do you offer any discounted periods in the year?

It's true our rates do fluctuate from time to time over the course of a year. To check available dates for 2025 or 2026, click here. If you know the dates you want to stay and number of guests, click here to make a booking inquiry and we'll get back to you with the best rate we can offer at that booking period.

House Rules

Please take a moment to review our guest guidelines for your stay. We sincerely appreciate your compliance and are available to answer any questions you may have if anything is unclear.

10 Guest Maximum - It is our strict policy that the number of guests who stay at the property must not exceed the number of guests confirmed in the booking. Visitors may not stay overnight. A 1,500,000 IDR per person fee will apply.
Guest Check-in - 3:00pm - 8:00pm (please let us know if you would like to check in later than 8pm and we will work to accommodate your schedule)
Guest Check-out - before 11:00am (late check out is dependent upon availability)
Cancelation Policy - free cancelation within 48-hours of confirmed booking. 50% refund up to 2-weeks before check-in.
No pets - Pets are not allowed on the premises. Additionally, guests should note that due to the unique urban-rural blend of Bali living and the location of our property amidst forests and rice fields, the owners cannot be held accountable for occasional sightings of wild animals like mice, snakes, or spiders. Our staff will address these occurrences as effectively as possible upon notification.
No parties or events - Rumah Kingfisher is not available for events or parties. We ask that you respect the local village and our neighbors. Quiet hours in the village are observed from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Please avoid making noise or playing loud music during these hours.
No commercial photography - Photographs capture wonderful memories from your vacations, and we encourage you to take as many as you desire. However, please note that the villa is not available for commercial photography without the owners' explicit permission. Should you wish to use the villa for commercial photographic purposes, please click here to submit a request.
No smoking - To ensure the safety of the home and to prevent fire hazards, we request that you refrain from smoking inside or on the main level balcony. Smoking is allowed on the garden level terrace or in any outdoor area surrounding the home.
Fire Pit - For safety reasons, all fires in the fire pit area need to be modest in size and monitored at all times. Please make sure the fire is completely extinguished after using the fire pit.
Room Keys - Handle the house keys with care. Should any key be lost, the guest will be liable for the replacement costs amounting to 500,000 IDR for each lost key.
No Drugs - Indonesia enforces stringent drug laws, which are also in effect on this property. Possession or being under the influence of illegal substances here will result in immediate eviction. Furthermore, you will still be obligated to pay for the full term of your stay as agreed upon.
No Shoes - In Indonesia, it is customary to remove your shoes before entering someone's home. It is polite to take off your shoes or sandals upon entering and experience the unexpected advantages of walking barefoot indoors.
Bathrooms - Kindly use only the towels you require and deposit them in the designated laundry baskets for replacement. Do not dispose of sanitary pads or any materials other than toilet paper in the toilet. Sanitary plastic bags are available in all bathrooms for disposal in the designated trash bins.
Air Conditioning - Four out of our five queen-size beds are situated in bedrooms with air conditioning. To save energy, we request that the air conditioners be used only while you are in the room. The fifth queen-size bed, located in the bedroom on the upper floor, is equipped with an evaporative cooler and a fan, but does not have air conditioning.
Swimming Pool - A professional pool service is scheduled for maintenance twice a week. Please be aware that using the swimming pool is at your own risk, and children should be supervised at all times.
Gardening - Regular gardening activities will be conducted on the property.
At Night - Please ensure all lights are turned off before going to bed. The external security lights are programmed to automatically shut down at 10pm.
Valuables, Security and Storage - Ensure that doors are locked when you are away and utilize the safety deposit box for your valuables. Rumah Kingfisher accepts no liability for the loss of personal items.
Rumah Kingfisher's Liabilities - We are dedicated to taking all reasonable measures to ensure the safety of our premises for all guests and to prevent accidents whenever possible. However, Rumah Kingfisher cannot be held liable for any accidents or injuries that may occur to guests.
Your Liabilities - Guests are responsible for any damage caused to the property and must cover the resulting costs. It is mandatory to report any damage to the management promptly to ensure it is addressed, maintaining comfort and convenience for subsequent guests.
Guest Registration with Local Authorities - Rumah Kingfisher is required by local legislation to scan or photocopy the passports of all guests upon check-in to file the necessary police report.
Payment for Incidentals - Please be advised that we can only accept cash payment for all extra services.
